NO MEDALS AT HENLEY VETS

posted by Dick Ruane - 13 Jul 2002

After their massive medal haul at the Scottish Championships, the "old men" went to the Henley Veterans Regatta full of enthusiasm but found that international competition is tough.

Thanks to the encouragment of Coaching Team Hunter, Tom Baker and Brain Bell (MVC2-), Iain Morton(MVC1x) and Dick Ruane(MVF1x) all did personal bests but fell to some serious oarsmen from America, Germany and England.

Ex Inverness stalwart John Poland(MVE1x) reached his final but was beaten by a large gentleman from Pagosa, U.S.A. Compensation was found in a re-acquaintance with the wonderful Henley atmosphere and Mr Brakespeare's fine product.
