Coaching Development

posted by Dick Ruane - 24 Sep 2002

Under the leadership of Mandy Towrie and Susanne Hunter and with financial help from Gael Force Ten, we shall be running a series of Coaching Courses which will be open to all members of the Club.

These will range from the Basic Instructors Course, through the Rowing Instructors Course to the S.A.R.A./A.R.A. Bronze level course.

Participants do not have to be brilliant or experienced rowers to join the courses and the more people we have with coaching knowledge the better the overall standard and the better we will be able to help new members.

If you want to join or just know more have a chat to Mandy or Susanne. Although rowing is not one of Gael Force Ten's core sports we have had great encouragement from Alan Hoseason, GFT's Coaching Development Officer and the funding support will greatly assist the delivery of the programmes.

Alan said - " Gael Force Ten are delighted to be able to support the development of coaching within rowing. Thanks to increased investment into the development of Coaching Networks by sportscotland (following the Scottish Executive's Comprehensive Spending Review), GFT has been able to assist coach development outwith our core sports. This is an exciting time for coaching in the Highlands with the Highland Coaching Strategy about to be launched. This will lead to new areas of development such as Coach Mentoring, Coach Resource Centres, a Coaching Audit and the establishment of a Highland Coaches Forum longer term.
I wish Inverness Rowing Club well with their plans and look forward to working with you to assist in developing a junior section for your club following our Coach Scholarship support.
