Caberfeidh Motors Inverness Eights and Small Boats Head

posted by Roy R Sinclair - 15 Feb 2003

Fast times in Inverness races

Saturday's Caberfeidh Motors Inverness Eights and Small Boats Head fulfilled all expectations by producing close racing in most classes - especially among the small boats trialling for selection to represent Scotland at this year's Home International Regatta in Cork in southern Ireland.

The fastest men's eight of the day came from Aberdeen University Boat Club, covering the course in 15 minutes 5 seconds. The Aberdeen Boat Club/Castle Semple Rowing Club composite provided the fastest women's crew of the day, finishing in 17 minutes 18 seconds whilst other Scottish cities represented among winners in the eights included Glasgow Rowing Club (men's veteran) who produced the fastest time in Division 2 with an adjusted time of 15 minutes 15 seconds.

Fastest womens crew in the Open Coxless Pairs trial was George Watson's in a time of 19 minutes 17 seconds.

In the mens Double Sculling trial, Castle Semple Rowing Club won in a time of 16 minutes 46 seconds with Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club 21 seconds behind.
Glasgow Rowing Club's sculler Warnock won the men's Single Sculling trial in 18 minutes 5 seconds from clubmate's Thompson (18:54) and Graveling (19:12).
A fresh tailwind and perfect overhead conditions made for fast times overall, with lightweights in particular benefiting from the conditions.
Inverness Rowing Club crews achieved success in winning several of the sculling events with Iain Morton (Veteran C Single Sculls - 19:13); Alastair Duff (Veteran B Single Sculls - 20:21); Alan Sinclair (Junior 18 Single Sculls - 21.01) and Dave Rothwell/Alan McDiarmid (Veteran B Double Sculls - 20:09)

Both Inverness Rowing Club's mens and womens Novice Eights produced competitive performances although just off the pace to win their events, whilst the Inverness womens Veteran C Double Scull of Mandy Towrie and Suzanne Hunter were 18 seconds behind winners St Andrew Boat Club in this event.
