Henley Vets 12/13th July 2003

posted by Roy R Sinclair - 14 Jul 2003

Inverness Rowing Club achieved success at the Henley Veterans Regatta last weekend on the River Thames in fine, dry and generally calm conditions in winning Veteran Double Sculls where they struck Gold and Veteran Coxless Pairs with Silver.

The Mens Veteran Coxless Pair of Tom Baker and Brian Bell had a convincing win in their semi final and led by 1/3rd of a length coming to the finish line in the final but struck the perimeter boom alongside the course and had to settle for the silver medal position - nevertheless a fine performance indeed.

The Inverness Womens crew later took the limelight with Susanne Hunter and Mandy Towrie combining in the Veteran Double Sculls to win a close fought semi-final by 2/3rds of a length before taking on a much fancied experienced American double in the final in which they had a brilliant one length win for the Gold medal.

These results bring great success to the determined athletes from the Inverness club which augers well for the forthcoming World Masters Championships which take place in Vichy, France early in September.
