Last weekend the National Championships of Great Britain were held at Strathclyde Park in Hamilton. Inverness were represented by Alan Sinclair who took part in Junior Single and Double Sculls.
In his race in the Single Scull on the Friday, Alan had a good race against
stiff opposition, narrowly missing out on a semi-final place by less than one
second.
With his double sculling partner Jonathan Stevenson from Glasgow Rowing Club,
this composite crew qualified into the semi-final via a repechage on the
Saturday.
They produced a most encouraging row in Sunday's semi-final to challenge all
the way down the course but were thwarted on the line,
just missing out on a third place which would have allowed passage to the
final; nevertheless a fine performance from this young crew.
This crew will travel to Cork next weekend to represent Scotland in the Home Countries International. Also competing in Cork will be another Fortrose Academy former pupil, Ruth Hobson from Munlochy, who will row in the womens lightweight coxless four which won a silver medal at the National Championships last weekend.
The Scottish team, led by team manager Tom Baker also from Inverness Rowing Club, leaves on Thursday for the long bus and ferry journey to Ireland.
