Scratch Regatta 16th August 2003

posted by Roy R Sinclair - 16 Aug 2003

Last Saturday, the club held a most successful Club Scratch Regatta over the same 500 metre course on the Caledonian Canal in which Inverness club members were selected in four crews to race against each other in matched coxed fours.

Several recently joined members took part in this event and it is most encouraging that two of those new members, Carole Wells and Doreen Waterson, were part of the crew which won the A final of this event.

In the first semi-final, the crew of Sally Moore, Ken Andrews, Iain Morton and Bea Wallace(stroke) with Thomas Prag (cox) were beaten by a margin of three lengths by Doreen Waterson, Carole Wells, Neil Wallace and Tom Baker(stroke) with Dave Rothwell(cox).

The second semi-final saw a most exciting race between the crew of Thomas Prag, Ian Hunter, Mary Clouston, Many Towrie(stroke) and Iain Morton(cox) who despite some steering difficulties finished about three lengths down on the crew of Angela MacKenzie, Roy Sinclair, Dave Rothwell, Janeen Collier(stroke) and Tom Baker(cox).

The B final, contested by the crews stoked by Bea Wallace and Mandy Towrie, resulted in a two and a half lengths win for the Wallace crew whilst the A final was a much closer affair with the crew stroked by Tom baker just managing to cross the finish line half a length in front of the Collier crew.

Prizes for the winning crew were presented by Vice President Dave Rothwell at the post regatta barbeque.
