Aberdeen Sprint

posted by Roy R Sinclair - 19 Sep 2004

Inverness Rowing Club achieved success at the Aberdeen Boat Club's Sprint Regatta in sunny but challenging windy conditions on the River Dee last Saturday.

In Womens Novice Coxed Fours, the Inverness crew of Hazel Geddes (bow), Mary Clouston, Doreen Waterson, Bea Wallace (stroke), Mandy Towrie (cox) had a sound one length win over Aberdeen Boat Club in their semi-final and went on to record a fine two length win in the final against Dundee University Boat Club.

This crew in Wallace/Waterson and Clouston/Geddes combinations also took part in the Womens Restricted 2 Double Sculls event with good performances although just missing out on places in the final of this event.

Other Inverness members, Mandy Towrie and Tom Baker took part in the Mixed Double Sculls narrowly being beaten in their semi-final, whilst in Veteran Single Sculls, Baker won his semi-final against Wallace of Aberdeen BC but was just edged out in the final by Newton of Aberdeen BC who had earlier beaten Roy Sinclair of Inverness by two lengths. Baker also won his Novice Single Sculls semi-final against Grundy of Aberdeen BC but in the final was beaten by the narrowest of margins by Ellis of Dundee University Boat Club. Doreen Waterson also put up a fine performance in the difficult, windy conditions in Womens Novice Single Sculls being pipped on the line in the final of this event by Archibald of Aberdeen BC.
