Tideway "Head of the River" Eights Heads 2005

posted by Roy R Sinclair - 20 Mar 2005

Inverness Rowing Club made the long trip to London last weekend to take part in two of the largest one day rowing events which take place annually of the River Thames.

On Saturday, the Inverness crew of Dave Howard (bow), Derek McMorrine, Joe Wright, Duncan Alexander, Ken Sinclair, Andy Robb, Chris Gates, Neil Wallace (stroke) and Lawrence Edwards (cox) produced a fine performance to record a time of 21 minutes 9.20 seconds to claim 306th place in an international entry of 450 eights from throughout Britain and Europe. In doing so they improved 95 places on their performance of last year and moved up 23 positons from their starting order slot. A most satisfactory effort from this crew who have been in serious training since last September in preparation for this event under the critical eye of Chief Coach Ian Hunter.

Following recovery from their exploits on the Saturday, the crew took to the waters of the Thames on Sunday to compete in the Vesta Veterans Head in which they recorded a sound performance with a time of 22 minutes 12.78 seconds, achieving 79th place from an entry of 157 crews racing the same 4 miles and 374 yards (6,779 m) stretch of the Thames from Putney to Mortlake which will be used in the historic Oxford Cambridge Boat Race on Sunday 26th March.
