Inverness Rowing Club again achieved success and many good performances this time at the Castle Semple Regatta last weekend on Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire in sunny but frequently blustery conditions in winning three events, - Mixed Junior 12 Coxed Quadruple Sculls, Womens Junior 12 Double Sculls and Mixed Junior 11 Aquajog.
Taking part in these Junior 12 events in their first ever competitive regatta were six members of the club's cadet squad, Sarah Cameron, Fern Urquhart, Adam Geddes, Rachel Wells, Meghan and Shaun Hunter who competed in Coxed Quadruple Sculling, Double Sculling and Aquajog events under the watchful eye of experienced senior coach Susanne Standish-Hunter.
All competed with distinction particularly those who won their events.
Shaun, Adam, Rachel and Meghan won their Coxed Quadruple Sculls race by a convincing two lengths against Castle Semple RC after having been a length down with 250 metres to go, whilst Meghan and Rachel later had a fine win in their double sculling race. Adam also had an excellent second win in his Aquajog single sculling race in particularly windy conditions, whilst all four girls took part in the girls quadruple sculls but just missed out on gold medal place.
Senior members of the club took also part in a variety of events but could not match the success of their junior counterparts. Many close finishes were witnessed and some character building performances in the difficult conditions were demonstrated by all the Inverness contingent who took part.
The next main season regatta at which Inverness athletes will be competing will be the Scottish Championships which takes place at Strathclyde Park near Hamilton on 11th and 12th June.
