The third National Assessment Long Distance Time Trial to be held in Scotland this winter was held on the Caledonian Canal in Inverness on Saturday 25th February. Senior athletes from Scotland and some based in England took part with the favourable windless conditions of the Womens Division 1 allowing the women to produce satisfactory times on the 5000 metre course.
Difficult headwind conditions had a significant effect on times recorded in the Mens Division 2 event with times being over 2 minutes slower than anticipated as a result of the strong gusty wind which also had an effect on crews' steering.
Times posted by the fastest crews in the event categories in the respective divisions are listed as follows:-
  • Division 1 - Women
  • Open Coxless Pairs - Aberdeen Boat Club (Fiona Hunter/Stephanie McDowell) - 20.30
  • Lightweight Coxless Pairs - Aberdeen Boat Club (Sheena Jack/Alex Gemmie) - 21.38
  • Open Singe Sculls - Aberdeen Boat Club (Alison Aitken) - 22.08
  • Lightweight Single Sculls - Upper Thames Rowing Club (Mary-Ann Chalmers) - 22.16
  • Division 2 - Men
  • Lightweight Coxless Pairs - Aberdeen Boat Club (Dave McNeill/Drew Taylor) - 20.31
  • Open Coxless Pairs - Aberdeen Boat Club (Colin Williamson/Lewis Carr) - 20.46
  • Lightweight Single Sculls - Glasgow University Boat Club (Jonny Logan) - 21.43
  • Open Single Sculls - Aberdeen Boat Club (Iarla Lewis) - 22.22
The final National selection time trial for senior athletes takes place on the 2000 metre eight lane international course at Strathclyde Park near Hamilton on Saturday 1st April.
