UK National Rowing Championships

Two Inverness Rowing Club members took part in the UK National Rowing
Championships which were held over three days at the eight lane international
course at Strathclyde Park near Hamilton.
Alan Sinclair was in the stroke seat of the Aberdeen Boat Club coxed four
along with Colin Williamson, Lewis Carr, Ross Cruikshank and Rob Hamilton
(cox) which took part in the Open Coxed Fours event.
In a tough opening race on Saturday morning, they just missed out on the
direct route to Sunday's final, but later in the day, produced a fine
performance in their repechage to qualify for the final with a strong
finishing burst to take second place behind a crew from Henley RC.
In the highly charged final of this event on Sunday, the Aberdeen crew
challenged strongly throughout the 2000 metre course against a strong field
which included several international oarsmen, narrowly missing out on a medal
position. A fine performance which augers well for next week's Home
International regatta which also takes place at Strathclyde Park on Saturday
22nd July.
Also taking part in the Championships was Alan's younger brother Colin
who produced a personal best performance in the Open Junior 16 single sculls,
just missing out on a qualifying place in the repechage to the final of this
event by 0.86 seconds.
