Garroway Trophy - 29th September 2006
posted by Roy R Sinclair - 1 Oct 2006
The club's own closed single sculling event was raced for the Allan Garraway
Sculling Trophy over the 500 metre sprint course on the straight to the north
of the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge. A total of 10 athletes, four women and six
men, ranging in age from 16 to 63 took part in this event in brilliant sunny
conditions with equalising handicaps being applied in favour of the older
members who took part.
Those athletes who fought their way through to semi-final positions were in
the first semi - final; Alastair Duff and Maeve Lewis, whilst Paddy Walsh and
Colin Sinclair met in the second semi - final. Sculling well in the calm
conditions, Colin Sinclair and Alastair Duff progressed through to the final,
which was won by approximately two lengths by the young Sinclair.
Supplementary cadet sculling events were also held that day in which Sarah
Cameron won the closest of single sculling races by 2 feet from Megan Hunter
with both girls combining well in the double sculls event in which they just
edged out Shaun Hunter and Adam Geddes by half a length.
Event sponsor Allan Garraway, who was present at the event, heartily
congratulated all competitors for their skill and performance in producing
fine competitive racing in the excellent conditions.
