Last weekend at the Aberdeen Fours and Small Boats Head of the River Races on
the River Dee, Inverness Rowing Club were represented by junior and senior
athletes in the various events which took place over the two day
regatta.
Fastest crew on Saturday's Fours Head was the Aberdeen Boat Club's Mens Open
Coxed Four of Misha Muller, Ross Cruikshank, Alan Sinclair (also Inverness
RC), Andrew Crossland and Meadbh Boyle (cox) which was just outside the course
record with an excellent time of 10 minutes 12 seconds over the 3000m course.
Alan's younger brother Colin recorded a good time of 13 minutes 9 seconds in
his single scull in a timed row over the course in the Saturday event. Also on
Saturday, Maeve Lewis was a member of an Aberdeen, Inverness, Glagow composite
crew which recorded a quick time of 11 minutes 15 seconds in their Quadruple
Scull.
Inverness athletes turned out in greater numbers for Sunday's Small Boats Head
in which Tom Baker and Alastair Duff sculled well in the Mens Veteran Single
Sculls in which Baker just missed out on 1st place by a mere one second.
In the difficult windy conditions later in the day, Maeve Lewis and Hazel
Smith recorded a fine time of 13 minutes 53 seconds in the Womens Open Double
Sculls whilst the Mens Novice Single Sculls was won by Colin Sinclair with a
time of 14 minutes 29 seconds.
This coming weekend sees a large entry of crews from throughout Scotland
arriving in the Highland Capital for the two day Inverness Fours and Small
Boats Head events on the Caledonian Canal when racing on Saturday starts at 12
noon and 2.30pm with Sunday racing starting at 11.02 am and 1.30pm.
