ALLAN GARRAWAY SCULLING TROPHY

posted by Roy Sinclair - 1 Oct 2007

Last weekend on Saturday 29th September, the club's own closed single sculling event was raced for the Allan Garraway Sculling Trophy over the 500 metre sprint course on the straight to the north of the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge. A total of 10 athletes, four women and six men, ranging in age from 17 to 64 took part in this event in brilliant sunny conditions with equalising handicaps being applied in favour of the older members who took part.
Those athletes who fought their way through to semi-final positions were in the first semi - final; Colin Sinclair and Hazel Geddes, whilst John Sharkey and Mary Clouston met in the second semi-final. Sculling well in the calm conditions, Hazel Geddes and Mary Clouston progressed through to the final, which was won by approximately three lengths by the Mary Clouston.
A supplementary cadet single sculling event was also held that day in which Meghan Hunter beat Sarah Cameron in the first semi-final whilst Rachael Wells narrowly beat Adam Geddes in the second semi-final. Meghan Hunter then went on to win the final by approximately two lengths from Rachael Wells.
Next weekend sees the first race of the Head of the River season when Colin Sinclair will represent the Inverness Club at Saturday's Clydesdale Scullers Head of the River race on the River Clyde in Glasgow
