Inverness Rowing Club members again achieved significant success at the two day Scottish Championship Regatta at Strathclyde Park in Hamilton last weekend in variable weather conditions in winning gold medals in a total of six events - Womens Veteran A/B Double Sculls, Womens Junior 14 Double Sculls, Womens Junior 14 Coxed Quadruple Sculls, Womens Junior 13 Coxed Quadruple Sculls, Mens Veteran E Single Sculls and Womens Junior 13 Single Sculls.

Excellent Junior wins on Saturday were recorded when Meghan Hunter and Rachael Wells achieved a resounding 3 length win in the Womens Junior 14 Double Sculls over crews from Castle Semple RC and George Heriots School whilst Rachael had an emphatic 4 length win in the Womens Junior 13 Single Sculls in which Sarah Cameron finished just outside the medal placings.

Sunday's wins were achieved by the Womens Veteran A/B Double Scull of Susanne Standish-Hunter and Shelagh Lombard who held off the strong challenge of the other Inverness crew of Hazel Geddes and Katie van Exan and an Aberdeen Boat Club crew to win by half a length. Tom Baker won the Mens Veteran E Single Sculls by 2 lengths with Alastair Duff achieving a sound third place finish in his Mens Veteran C Single Sculls event. Both combined well to achieve a bronze medal position in the Mens Veteran D/F Double Sculls. Junior wins on Sunday were recorded in both Womens Junior 14 and Junior 13 Coxed Quadruple Sculls by Sarah Cameron, Jennifer Warwick, Rachael Wells and Meghan Hunter with Shaun Hunter coxing one event and Adam Geddes coxing the other event winners.
A former Inverness member also achieved medal success at the Championships with President Paddy Walsh's daughter Imogen (Clyde ARC) winning her Gold medal in the Womens Lightweight Single Sculls on Saturday and followed this up with a fine silver medal in an extremely close finish in the Womens Open Single Sculls on the Sunday.

Club members performed with distinction in other events. The Womens Veteran A/C Quadruple Scull of Hazel Geddes, Shelagh Lombard, Hazel Smith and Susanne Standish-Hunter narrowly missed first place in this event to a crew from Strathclyde Park RC, whilst a similar result was achieved when Tom Baker stroked a composite Inverness/St Andrew/Strathclyde Park/George Watsons BC crew in the Mens Veteran E/G Coxed Fours. Mary Clouston and Sally Moore achieved third place in the Womens Veteran D Double Sculls whilst Clouston finished just outside the medal positions in the Womens Novice Single Sculls with Clouston and Moore finishing in second and third places respectively in the Womens Veteran D Single Sculls. A fine second place was achieved by the Open Junior 13 Quadruple Sculls crew of Adam Geddes, Meghan Hunter, Rachael Wells and Shaun Hunter against other all male crews. In Mens Junior 13 Double Sculls, Shaun Hunter and Adam Geddes had a fine race in the difficult windy conditions on Saturday whilst in the Mens Junior 18 Single Sculls event, Colin Sinclair sculled well but just missed out on a medal position.

Next weekend on Saturday 21st June sees the Club conducting a significant boat naming ceremony when a number of recently acquired boats will be officially named by various important sporting and local personalities. The ceremony is due to take place at the boathouse on the Caledonian Canal and is scheduled to commence at 11am.
