Henley Royal Regatta 2008

Two former members of Inverness Rowing Club took part in separate events at
Henley Royal Regatta last week.
Colin Williamson (from Perth) and Alan Sinclair (from Belmaduthy on the Black
Isle) also former members of Aberdeen University Boat Club and Aberdeen Boat
Club and now members of the Leander Club in Henley on Thames raced in the
Ladies' Challenge Plate for eights and the
Visitors' Challenge Cup for coxless fours.
Colin's eights crew had convincing wins in the earlier rounds
and in windy and wet conditions in the final on Sunday recorded a fine win of
just under one length against a Dutch University crew from Roeivereniging.
In the first round of the Visitors' Challenge Cup,
Alan's crew posted a fast time in recording a two length win
over a crew from London Rowing Club. In their quarter final, they moved out to
an early half length lead before suffering a setback in the gusty conditions
which caused their bow side oars to clash with the booms. Despite having to
restart some two lengths down on their opposition from London RC/Wallingford
RC, they fought back over the remainder of the course but were unable to
overhaul their opponents before the finishing line.
