UK National Championships & Home Countries International Regatta

Last weekend, the UK National Rowing Championships took place from Friday to
Sunday at the Holme Pierrepont rowing lake at Nottingham.
Athletes from the north were successful in bringing home two bronze medals.
Imogen Walsh excelled in the womens Lightweight Single Sculls in claiming the
second place spot in her semi-final against a sculler from Tideway Scullers
and followed that up with a strong finish in her final to win her bronze
medal.
Alan Sinclair, rowing with Alastair Webb in the coxless pairs event had a most
exciting and closely contested semi-final race with a crew from Glasgow
University Boat Club to cross the line just under a length behind their
Glasgow opponents. The final of this event in the difficult cross-wind
conditions was dominated by a much heavier Leander crew closely followed by
Glasgow and the Sinclair/ Webb combination who claimed their bronze medals
just behind the Glasgow crew. Alan's brother Colin was one of
40 junior single scullers challenging for one of the 12 semi-final places in
this event. Sculling well in the strong headwinds on the Friday, Colin
unfortunately just missed out on claiming one of these places.
This coming weekend, Imogen, Alan and Colin have been selected as members of
the Scottish team and will travel to compete against crews from England,
Ireland and Wales in the Home Countries International in Cardiff on Saturday
26th July.
Imogen will race in the lightweight Single Sculls event whilst Alan will
partner his Leander Club colleague Colin Williamson in the Double Sculls event
and both will also compete in the Quadruple Sculls event. Colin gains his
international vest as a member of the junior Quadruple Sculls crew.
