posted by Roy Sinclair - 15 Sep 2008
Inverness Rowing Club members achieved considerable success in winning a total
of nine events on the River Dee at last Saturday's Aberdeen
Sprint Regatta.
In the Open Junior 14 Coxed quadruple Sculls, the Inverness crew of Shaun
Hunter (bow), Jennifer Warwick, Adam Geddes, Rachael Wells (stroke) and Meghan
Hunter (cox) had convincing wins over crews from Aberdeen Schools Rowing
Association (ASRA). Shaun and Adam later combined well in their Open Junior 14
Double Sculls event to emerge winners against another crew from ASRA.
Other Inverness members who won two events were Mary Clouston in Womens
Veteran and Novice Single Sculls, Hazel Smith in Womens Veteran Double Sculls
with Katie van Exan and in Womens Veteran Fours, and Colin Sinclair who won
both Mens Restricted 1 and Novice Single Sculls.
In the final of the Mixed Double Sculls, John Sharkey and Susanne
Standish-Hunter beat the other Inverness crew of Dave Rothwell and Katie van
Exan in a close race.
Several other junior members of the club preformed with distinction in their
events, including Kirsty Guild and Eilean Mackenzie in Womens Junior 14 Double
Sculls, and Calum Wylie, Ophelia and Oliver Oatridge in crews which took part
in the Generation Double Sculls event.
This coming weekend sees club treasurer Hazel Geddes making the long trip to
Lincolnshire to take part in her single scull in the famous Boston Marathon on
the 31 mile course on the River Ely from Lincoln to Boston.
