John A Stevenson - Gone Home
posted by Roy Sinclair - 29 Sep 2008
It is with sadness that I bring you the news that our Honorary President John
Stevenson passed away on Thursday 25th September in Highview Nursing Home,
Inverness.
John was a long standing and loyal supporter of the club since it was formed
20 years ago and was the donator of a single scull and the very impressive
Southwell Stevenson Single Sculling Trophy which is competed for annually for
club members.
John was an impressive oarsman in his early years and was a member of the
Clare College Boat Club and rowed in the No 4 seat of the Eight which won the
Ladies Challenge Plate at Henley Royal Regatta in 1939. His oar was proudly
displayed on the wall of his house in Old Edinburgh Road in Inverness.
John had not enjoyed the best of health over the past few years and I last
visited him at home some 3 weeks ago and spent a most pleasant half hour in
his company.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The club's condolences and thoughts are with his family at
this sad time.
His funeral service will take place on Monday, 6th October at 11.30am in
Inverness Crematorium to which all friends are respectfully invited.
