Last Saturday 19th September, members of clubs from Aberdeen, Inverness,
Edinburgh and Glasgow took part in a well organised regatta which included a
wide variety of junior, senior and veteran events at the Aberdeen Sprint
Regatta held on the 500 metre course on the River Dee in Aberdeen. Crews from
Inverness Rowing Club won a total of 11 events. Three wins were recorded by
Mary Clouston with success in both Veteran and Novice single sculls and in
Veteran double sculls with Susanne Standish-Hunter. Standish-Hunter also won
Mixed double sculls with John Sharkey who later teamed up with Dave Rothwell
to win Veteran coxless pairs.
Two wins were also recorded by Rachael Wells in Junior 14 and Junior 16 single
sculls, whilst the wins for Meghan Hunter came from Junior 16 double sculls in
company with Caitlin Horsburgh from Castle Semple Rowing Club and together
they claimed another win in junior 15 coxed quadruple sculls when joined by
Kirsty Guild, Ilene Mackenzie and cox Shaun Hunter. The Sinclair family
claimed two wins with student Colin winning the Restricted 1 single sculls
whilst his father won the Veteran single sculls. Other Inverness members
challenged well in their particular events, just missing out on gold medal
positions.
