'Jack Frost' forces cancellation of Inverness Eights & Small Boats Head - 27th February 2010
posted by Roy Sinclair - 24 Feb 2010, 1:13 p.m.
In the twenty two years since running rowing events in Inverness since the
club was formed back in 1988, it is with great regret that I have to notify
you that this is the first time that weather conditions have caused the
cancellation one of our rowing events.
Weather conditions in Inverness for today are snow with a daytime air
temperature of plus 1 - 2 degree C.
At my inspection today, Wednesday, the canal was unrowable with last night's
covering of 2 inches of snow on top of a depth of over 2 inches of ice .
According to recent weather forecasting, the prospects of the ice breaking up
over the next few days are negligible.
So regrettably we must declare a cancellation to the disappointment of the
many clubs and their athletes and our umpires and officials who were planning
to join us in Inverness this weekend.
May I extend the thanks of the club to all for their support.
This message will also be posted on the News page on our club website -
www.invernessrowingclub.org.uk and I will request Jo Wherrett to post a
message on the Scottish Rowing Newspage.
Kind regards
Roy R Sinclair - Hon President
PS - I shall invite our club treasurer Hazel Geddes and others to attend to
administration matters in connection with this cancellation - thanks Hazel
