Aberdeen North East Regatta - 15th and 16th May
posted by Roy Sinclair - 18 May 2010, 10:16 a.m.
Inverness Rowing Club had several representatives at last weekend's
Aberdeen North East Regatta on the River Dee.
On Saturday in the men's veteran coxless pairs, John Sharkey and Dave
Rothwell were just pipped by 3 seconds in the final of this event by a crew
from Aberdeen Boat Club, whilst Roy Sinclair missed out in the mens veteran
single sculls by a margin of 8 seconds in his tussle with Andrew Crosland,
also of Aberdeen Boat Club.
On Sunday, success was achieved in the mixed coxed fours event when a
composite Aberdeen/Inverness crew which included Caroline Keith and Hazel
Smith and two Aberdeen members had a four and a half lengths win over another
Aberdeen/Inverness composite crew containing Hazel Geddes and three other
Aberdeen members. In the womens veteran coxed fours, the two Hazels and
Caroline were joined by Tricia Ritchie of Aberdeen Boat Club to record fine
wins in both their heat and final against other crews from the host club.
Next weekend sees a sizeable contingent of Inverness members taking part in a
variety of veteran and junior events at the popular Castle Semple Regatta on
the 1000 metre rowing course at Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire.
