Inverness Rowing Club members again achieved significant success at the two day Scottish Championship Regatta at Strathclyde Park in Hamilton last weekend in variable weather conditions in winning gold medals in a total of five events - womens junior 15 double sculls, womens junior 16 quadruple sculls, womens junior 15 single sculls, womens veteran B/C coxed fours and womens veteran C/D quadruple sculls.

In womens junior 15 single sculls, Rachael Wells had a convincing one and a half length win over scullers from Castle Semple RC and George Watsons College BC shortly after just missing out by 0.1 second from winning schoolgirls single sculls. Meanwhile in womens veteran C/D quadruple sculls, Hazel Geddes, Susanne Standish-Hunter, Ailie Ord (Strathclyde Park RC) and Hazel Smith (stroke) had a sound two lengths win over George Watsons College BC and Loch Lomond RC/Strathclyde Park RC. Later on Saturday, the two Hazels and Susanne were joined by Caroline Keith and cox Shaun Hunter to record another fine win in womens veteran B/C coxed fours against a crew from Aberdeen BC.

Excellent junior wins on Sunday were recorded when Meghan Hunter and Caitlin Horsburgh (Castle Semple RC) achieved a fine three lengths win in the womens junior 15 double sculls over crews from George Watsons College BC and Nithsdale ARC. Also on Sunday, Rozy Shepherd (stroke), Meghan Hunter, Kirsty Guild and Eileen Mackenzie had a convincing win in womens junior 16 quadruple sculls against crews from George Watsons College BC/Strathclyde Park RC and Aberdeen Schools RA. Tom Baker and Alastair Duff just missed out on gold in the mens veteran D double sculls by 1.5 seconds and it was even closer for Baker in his mens veteran F/G single sculls event where he was denied a gold medal by 1.2 seconds.

Imogen Walsh from Inverness and Colin Sinclair from the Black Isle also claimed gold in single sculling events on Sunday. In the colours of Clyde ARC, Imogen convincingly won the womens open single sculls whilst Colin in the colours of Glasgow BC, sculled well to win the mens intermediate single sculls.

Other Inverness members performed with distinction in other events. In mens veteran D/F coxless pairs, John Sharkey (stroke) and Dave Rothwell claimed a good second placed finish behind and crew from Aberdeen BC, whilst Sharkey claimed the same position in mens veteran D/E single sculls. In womens intermediate quadruple sculls, Rozy Shepherd (stroke), Meghan Hunter, Kirsty Guild and Eileen Mackenzie clinched a second place finish with the Hunter/Guild and Shepherd/Mackenzie crews claiming third and sixth places respectively in both womens intermediate double sculls and womens junior 16 double sculls. A third placed finish was claimed by Mary Clouston in her heat of womens novice single sculls and in the final of womens veteran single sculls whilst Alastair Duff and Roy Sinclair missed out on medal positions in their respective mens veteran A/C and F/G single sculls events.
