Henley Royal Regatta 2010

posted by Roy Sinclair - 27 Jun 2010, 8:59 p.m.

At Henley Royal Regatta this week, Inverness will be represented in two separate events.

Imogen Walsh from Inverness and Alan Sinclair from Belmaduthy in Ross-shire started their successful rowing careers on the waters of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness. Alan's rowing career continued as a member of Aberdeen University Boat Club and Aberdeen Boat Club and now as a member of the Leander Club in Henley on Thames whilst Imogen's rowing career continued with Glasgow University Boat club and now as a member of Clyde Amateur Rowing Club in Glasgow.

Following excellent performances by both athletes in earlier regattas and national trials over the past nine months, Imogen will race in the composite London Rowing Club/Clyde Amateur Rowing Club quadruple sculls crew with their first race in the Princess Grace Challenge Cup against a crew representing Hollandia Roeiclub from Holland. Alan's first race in the Leander 'A' coxless four in the Visitor's Challenge Cup will be against the winners of the preliminary heat between Thames Tradesmen's Rowing Club and his clubmates in the Leander 'B' coxless four.

Other Scottish crews are also involved at this year's Royal Regatta. The Logan brothers from Glasgow Rowing Club will race in the Silver Goblets and Nickalls Challenge Cup for coxless pairs with their first race on Thursday against the Greek pair Tsilis & Tsaninis. Colin Wallace and Scott Purdie of Deeside Scullers also take part in the same event with their first race on Thursday against the Canadian crew of Jensen & Crisan. Glasgow University Boat Club's first race on Wednesday is against Newcastle University Boat Club in the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup for university coxed fours, whilst Scottish sculling champion James Murphy of Clyde Amateur Rowing Club has his first race in the Diamond Challenge Sculls on Thursday against New Zealand internationalist Duncan Grant.
