Double and Pair Success For IRC Trio At Aberdeen Sprint
posted by Dave Rothwell - 20 Sep 2010, 9:29 p.m.
Hazel, John and Dave had a grand day out at the Aberdeen Sprint on Saturday
and returned victorious from a hectic afternoon's racing.
The first event was John and Dave in the Vet 2-. Following a fast start in
the final, they managed to stay in touch with a younger crew from Aberdeen
Boat Club and, once the equalising handicap to account for the age difference
had been applied, John and Dave claimed victory by just 0.2 seconds.
Their second final in the Vet 2x was also a close struggle on the water with
neither Inverness nor their opponents from Aberdeen being able to achieve a
significant advantage. However, this time around John and Dave had to settle
for second place once the equalising handicap in favour of the older Aberdeen
crew had been applied.
John also sculled well in the final of the Vet 1x and was leading by the
bridge but again had to settle for second place against an older sculler from
Aberdeen.
At the end of the day, Hazel was relieved of her Umpiring duties and managed
to warm up sufficiently to join John in the Mixed Vet 2x event, where they
delivered a strong performance to win their event against an Aberdeen crew.
For the curious, "Snapper Ron" has kindly provided some photographic
evidence of the day on

Thanks as always to the Committee of the Dee and Aberdeen Boat Club for
organising a great event and helping us fix our boats!
