The Tideway Eights Head of the River Race took place on Saturday 2nd April on the River Thames from Mortlake to Putney in fine, sunny conditions.

Neil Paul and Colin Sinclair, two former pupils from Fortrose Academy and Munlochy Primary School took part in this highly significant event in the British racing calendar for their separate club crews. Neil, a first year student at King's College, Cambridge, raced in their crew which produced an excellent performance for a newly formed combination to record a time of 19 minutes 25.30 seconds to complete the course in 244th position overall in a total entry of over 400 crews, a highly creditable performance. Colin raced in the top finishing Scottish crew from Glasgow Rowing Club which completed the 4 & 1/4 mile course in fine style to finish in 64th place in an excellent time of 18 minutes 11.33 seconds.

The following day saw another record entry of over 200 crews for the Vesta Veterans Head which took place in sunny conditions over the same stretch of water. Hazel Smith from Inverness Rowing Club raced in the composite womens veteran D crew from Inverness Rowing Club and Belfast Boat Club which produced an excellent result to finish in third place in this event category in an adjusted time of 22 minutes 05.68 seconds. :D
