NORTH ROWERS RACE INTERNATIONAL EVENTS ON THE RIVER THAMES

The Tideway Eights Head of the River Race took place on Saturday 2nd April on
the River Thames from Mortlake to Putney in fine, sunny conditions.
Neil Paul and Colin Sinclair, two former pupils from Fortrose Academy and
Munlochy Primary School took part in this highly significant event in the
British racing calendar for their separate club crews. Neil, a first year
student at King's College, Cambridge, raced in their crew which produced
an excellent performance for a newly formed combination to record a time of 19
minutes 25.30 seconds to complete the course in 244th position overall in a
total entry of over 400 crews, a highly creditable performance. Colin raced
in the top finishing Scottish crew from Glasgow Rowing Club which completed
the 4 & 1/4 mile course in fine style to finish in 64th place in an
excellent
time of 18 minutes 11.33 seconds.
The following day saw another record entry of over 200 crews for the Vesta
Veterans Head which took place in sunny conditions over the same stretch of
water. Hazel Smith from Inverness Rowing Club raced in the composite womens
veteran D crew from Inverness Rowing Club and Belfast Boat Club which produced
an excellent result to finish in third place in this event category in an
adjusted time of 22 minutes 05.68 seconds. :D
