Gold Medals for Inverness Rowing Club at Scottish Rowing Championships

Inverness Rowing Club members again achieved significant success at the two
day Scottish Championship Regatta at Strathclyde Park in Hamilton last weekend
in variable weather conditions in winning gold medals in two events -
mens veteran D coxed fours and mens veteran F/G coxed fours.
In mens veteran D coxed fours, Alastair Duff stroked an Inverness/St
Andrew/Stirling composite crew to win by almost two lengths from another
Inverness crew of Ken Sinclair (bow), Gary Hunt, Dave Rothwell, John Sharkey
(stroke) and A Boy (cox) with Aberdeen Boat Club in third place. In mens
veteran F/G coxed fours, Roy Sinclair, who won his first championship medal
back in 1963, was in the no 3 seat of the Inverness/Strathclyde Park/St
Andrew/Clydesdale composite crew which overcame the early challenge of a
Clydesdale crew to win by just under one length with another Aberdeen Boat
Club crew in third place.
In the womens veteran B/D quadruple sculls, Hazel Smith and Hazel Geddes,
claimed a sound 3rd placed finish in company with two Aberdeen Boat Club
members and later in the womens veteran C/D double sculls also finished in
third place.
The Sharkey, Rothwell, Hunt and Ken Sinclair crew had a good third placed
finish in the mens D/F quadruple sculls whilst Sharkey and Rothwell finished
in a similar position in mens veteran D/F coxless pairs.
In the strong headwind conditions on the Sunday, Sharkey, Duff and Roy
Sinclair finished in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively in their respective
veteran C, E and G category single sculling events whilst Sharkey and Duff
recorded a good second place finish in their mens veteran B/D double sculls
event.
All the Inverness athletes mentioned above will now continue with their
intensive training schedules in preparation for competing at the World Masters
Regatta being held in Poznan, Poland in early September.
