MACRAE & DICK INVERNESS EIGHTS AND SMALL BOATS HEAD - Saturday 18th February - 2012 - Results Report

Despite the difficult road conditions encountered by clubs travelling up the A9 early on Saturday morning 18th February, a significant entry of 45 crews took part in the Macrae & Dick Eights and Small Boats Head with slightly improving weather conditions throughout the day on the superb rowing waters of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness. Much excellent racing was witnessed over the 4.5 kilometre course in an exciting day of competition which included crews from all over Scotland.

The Mens Open Eights was won by a Glasgow RC crew in an excellent time of 15 minutes 02.84 seconds, whilst the fastest time in Womens Eights was recorded by a composite crew from Clydesdale ARC/Strathclyde Park RC/Glasgow University BC which recorded a fine time of 17 minutes 07.34 seconds in the Womens R1 event.

Clydesdale ARC won the Mens R1 Eights whilst St Andrews University BC won the Mens R2 Eights. A composite crew from Strathclyde Park RC/Loch Lomond RC/Clydesdale ARC won both the Open Junior 18 Eights and the Mens Novice Eights. In other Womens Eights events, Glasgow RC won the R2 event whilst a composite crew from Glasgow RC/Castle Semple RC won the Novice event.

In the small boats events, the Mens R1 single sculls event was won by St Andrew BC in Division 1 whilst Aberdeen BC won this event in Division 2. Aberdeen BC also won the Mens Veteran single sculls with Strathclyde Park RC winning the Mens Novice single sculls. Glasgow RC won the Womens Junior 15 single sculls and the Womens R2 double sculls. Other double sculls events were won by Clydesdale ARC in the Open Junior 18 event and Strathclyde Park RC in the Womens Junior 16 event whilst the Womens Veteran event was also won by a Strathclyde Park RC/Loch Lomond RC composite crew.

An Inverness crew also took part in the Mixed Eights event recording a fine time of 17 minutes 20.96 seconds to finish in 8th position overall in the Division 1 event.
