North rowers in action north and south of the border

At the GB Final Trials held last weekend at the 2012 Olympic rowing course at
Dorney Lake, Inverness sculler Imogen Walsh, representing London Rowing Club,
produced outstanding performances in the women's lightweight single
sculls in which she qualified for the 'A' final by winning her
repechage and then producing a fine performance in the 'A' final
claiming third place and thereby challenging for a place in the lightweight
double sculls event in the GB team in the run-up to the Olympics in July.
Ross-shire sculler Alan Sinclair, representing Leander Club, raced in the
men's heavyweight single sculls event and qualified for the 'B'
final of this event with a solid performance in his repechage but just missed
out on a top three spot in the 'B' final.
Nearer home in the annual Aberdeen Universities Boat Race on the River Dee in
Aberdeen last Saturday, Inverness oarsman Alastair Crawford and Richard Hills
from Nairn were members of the Robert Gordon University Boat Club's eight
which recorded a resounding four lengths win against the eight representing
Aberdeen University Boat Club. Also racing at the weekend in the Clydesdale
Scullers Head Glasgow was Alastair Duff representing Inverness Rowing Club who
claimed a second placed finish in the men's veteran D single sculls
category.
Next Saturday, the Head of the River Race for men's eights is one of the
main rowing events of the season which will be raced over the 4 & 1/4 mile
championship course on the River Thames in London from Mortlake to Putney.
Amongst the large entry of over 400 crews registered to compete will be
several Scots club crews and a significant number of international crews plus
a Ross-shire oarsman in the Leander Club eight which is due to start in
position one.
