Gold for Inverness Rowing Club at Scottish Rowing Championships

Inverness Rowing Club members again achieved significant success at the two
day Scottish Championship Regatta at Strathclyde Park in Hamilton last weekend
in variable weather conditions in winning the gold medal in women's
veteran coxed fours as well as achieving a satisfactory number of high placed
finishes in other events.
In women's veteran A-C coxed fours, Susanne Standish-Hunter stoked her
crew of Hazel Geddes (bow), Hazel Smith, Jodi Busby with cox Meghan Hunter to
a convincing three lengths win over crews from Aberdeen BC and St Andrew BC.
Earlier in the regatta, a similar crew with Leslie Foale replacing Jodi Busby
missed out on a gold medal by 0.18 seconds to a crew from Clydesdale ARC after
a nail biting race over the full regatta course.
In men's veteran coxed fours, the Inverness crew of Dave Rothwell (bow),
John Sharkey, Alastair Duff and Tom Baker (stroke) were unlucky to lose out in
their men's veteran E-G coxed fours race to crews from Clydesdale ARC and
Aberdeen BC as were both the separate Baker/Duff and Sharkey/Rothwell
combinations in their men's veteran D-F coxless pairs race to a composite
crew from Clydesdale ARC/Strathclyde Park RC.
In the changeable damp conditions on Sunday, Hazel Geddes and Leslie Foale
combined well in their women's veteran A-C doub;e sculls event but were
edged out of a gold medal place but a composite crew from Clyde ARC/Glasgow
RC, whilst in their men's veteran E-F double sculls event, Tom Baker and
Alastair Duff were narrowly beaten by a composite crew from Clydesdale
ARC/Strathclyde Park RC.
Both John Sharkey and Alastair Duff challenged well in their men's
veteran D-E single sculls event claiming second and third places respectively
behind former international sculler Martin Homes from Castle Semple RC whilst
Tom Baker claimed a fine second place finish in his men's veteran F
single sculls event behind former international sculler Willie Brown from
Stirling RC.
In other single sculling events, Mary Clouston claimed a third placed finish
in the women's veteran D/E event and also produced a fine finish in her
heat of women's novice single sculls, just missing out on the final of
this event. Roy Sinclair raced in men's veteran G single sculls just
missing out on gold by one length against Les Johnston from Clydesdale ARC.
