INVERNESS OARSMAN WINS AT HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA

At Henley Royal Regatta last week, Inverness was represented by Alan Sinclair
from Belmaduthy who raced in the Stewards' Challenge Cup for men's
coxless fours in a composite crew alongside his GB team crew mates Nathaniell
Reilly O'Donnell, Scott Durant and Matt Tarrant.
On Saturday, their semi final opponents were an international crew
representing Waiariki Rowing Club from New Zealand which led the British crew
for 95 % of the course, at one stage by as much as one and a quarter lengths.
With little over 300 metres to go, the Brits mounted their closing finish,
drawing level with the Kiwi crew just 10 metres from the finish line and
pushed on to win by the official margin of three feet - a magnificent
effort which had the whole crowd cheering encouragement.
In Sunday's final against members of the Tuks Rowing Club crew from South
Africa who were gold medalists at the London Olympics, the British crew moved
into an early lead and maintained their leading position throughout the course
length to win their Henley medals by a margin of one and a quarter lengths and
in so doing, Sinclair achieved a Henley treble in successive years having won
the quadruple sculls at the 2011 regatta and the double sculls at the 2012
regatta.
Next weekend from Friday 19th till Sunday 21st July sees the last of the three
Samsung World Rowing Cup regattas which takes place on the famous Rotsee
course at Lucerne in Switzerland where Sinclair and his Inverness GB team
member Imogen Walsh will race in men's coxless fours and women's
lightweight double sculls respectively.
