At the recent boat naming ceremony on 29th December, Inverness honorary members and GB team members Imogen Walsh and Alan Sinclair did the honours by naming two new sculling boats which were purchased with the assistance of grant aid from both Inverness Area Sports Council and Awards for All Scotland.
In accordance with the traditional of naming club boats after significant
features of the Scottish landscape and in front of an assembled company of
over 60 club members, parents, friends and three other GB rowing team members.
Imogen named the new single scull Dava after the local Nairnshire moorland
area, whilst Alan named the new double scull Tanera Mhor after one of the
Summer Isles near Ullapool.
Prior to the boat naming ceremony, Imogen and Alan were joined by three fellow GB team members, Will Satch - 2012 Olympic bronze medallist and 2012 World Cup silver medallist in coxless pairs, 2013 World Champion and World Cup Gold medallist in eights, Jonny Walton, - 2013 World Cup finalist in single sculls and Matt Gotrel - 2013 World Cup Gold medallist in eights, who all took to the waters of the canal on a special demonstration row for the benefit of club members.
Thereafter many of the club's junior members were thrilled to enjoy the chance to row in various racing boats for short outings with the five GB team members.
This memorable occasion was rounded off with a soup and sandwich lunch at the local Premier Inn which was attended by the assembled company.
