Success for Wright in the Allan Garraway Single Sculling Trophy

posted by Roy Sinclair - 6 Sep 2014, 5:41 p.m.

On Saturday 6th September, Inverness Rowing Club's own closed single sculling event was raced for the Allan Garraway Single Sculling Trophy over the 300 metre sprint course close to the club's boathouse on the Caledonian Canal. A group of 10 athletes, four women and six men, took part in this popular event in difficult tailwind conditions following time trials which took place before the knockout stages which determined equalising handicaps for the less experienced competitors.

Those athletes who fought their way through to semi-final positions were in the first semi-final, Joseph Wright and Dave Rothwell, whilst Bethany Irvine and Angus Thomson met in the second semi-final.

Progressing by the narrowest of margins, Wright and Irvine squeezed through to the final, which was won by two thirds of a length by Joseph Wright.
