With regret, I write to tell you of the recent death of the Club's first honorary member Allan Garraway who passed away on Tuesday 30th December, in his 89th year.

While the younger members would not have known Allan, many past and several present members remember him with gratitude for his huge contributions to Inverness Rowing Club.

He was Secretary and Treasurer of the Club in the early days and helped to steer the Club to the lease in 1992 of the ground where the boathouse stands. He helped many novice rowers in their earliest stages on the water and he donated generously to the Club which included the purchase of sculling boats to develop its young rowers.

More recently, he donated the Club's single sculling trophy which bears his name.

Allan continued to row regularly until he was into his late seventies.

Update 3rd January 2015

Allan Garraway's funeral service will be held at Inverness Crematorium at 2.30pm on Thursday 8th January followed by a reception.

The crematorium is at Kilvean Road, IV3 8JN on the north side of the A82 a few miles west of the centre of Inverness.
