Inverness Rowing Club enjoyed medal success at the Castle Semple Regatta with five wins on the day at Scotland’s largest single day rowing regatta. The racing took place at Lochwinnoch over a 1000m, six lane course in quite blustery conditions not normally suited to the Inverness crews who train on the calmer waters of the Caledonian Canal.
Tom Baker from Inverness Rowing Club won in the Vet Pair with his rowing partner Ailie Ord from Strathclyde Park Rowing Club repeating their success from last year’s regatta. This was followed shortly after by Heather Gordon (Inverness Royal Academy) who won her Girls J14 single sculls event which she later followed with a win alongside her doubles partner Eve Macleay (Millburn Academy) in the Girls J14 double sculls event.
Katherine Ellis achieved a stunning victory in her first ever single scull race to win the women’s novice event by more than two boat lengths.
Inverness Lightweight sculler Jane Patterson partnered with Aberdeen sculler Kerryn Meston were victorious in their women’s R2 double sculls event.
Angus Thomson (Inverness Royal Academy) achieved first place in his heat for the J15 single sculls event was unable to participate in the final. He went on to partner Harvey Buchannan of Nithsdale Rowing Club and narrowly missed out on a win in a well fought contest in the J15 double sculls final.
