In sunny, calm, cold weather conditions, over 400 crews from all over Scotland took part in the Hawco Inverness Fours/Quads and Small Boats Heads on Saturday and Sunday 19th and 20th November on the superb rowing waters of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness over a course of approximately 4500 metres from Dochgarroch to the Inverness Rowing Club’s Boathouse close to the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge.
Much excellent racing was witnessed on both days of the regatta with the host club winning the Women’s Veteran Quad Sculls on Saturday and the Women’s Junior 16 Double Sculls on the Sunday.
In the Fours/Quads events, the fastest men's crew of the regatta weekend and winning the traditional set of mounted antlers was the Clydesdale ARC R1 quad stroked by Burns in a time of 15 minutes 45 seconds. The fastest women's crew was the Robert Gordons University BC/Aberdeen University BC open coxless four stroked by Sophie-Tirre in a time of 17 minutes 32 seconds.
In the Small Boats events, fastest men’s crew on Saturday was the Aberdeen BC’s R1 double scull stroked by Hills in a time of 17 minutes 12 seconds. Other Inverness Rowing Club crews distinguished themselves well in various other event categories over the two days of the regatta, with several crews narrowly missing out on medal positions.
Thanks are due to all involved in racing and supporting the event, including Hawco Volkswagen, the event sponsor and Scottish Canals.
