Inverness Rowing Club continued their remarkable medal run of success by winning two Gold Medals at the British Rowing Masters Championships held at Strathclyde Park, Hamilton on the 15th and 126th June.
On the Saturday, the Masters A-C coxed four crew of Jude McManus, Jenny Baird, Dave Rothwell and Robert Gordon coxed by Robert's daughter Heather had a convincing win over an English crew from London Otters RC. Later on Saturday, Robert and Dave raced in the Masters D-F coxless pairs and were narrowly beaten by a crew from Grovenor RC from Chester.
On the Sunday, Gold medal success was achieved by the composite women's Masters D eights crew from Inverness RC (Hazel Geddes, Carla Madigan, Hazel Smith and Sarah Brennan) who along with the four other rowers and cox from Belfast BC had a very close race with their opposition from Strathclyde Park RC, eventually pulling away from their opposition to win their medals by over 7 seconds. Later on Sunday in the Masters Open D Coxless Pairs, Dave Rothwell and Robert Gordon had a fine race against stern opposition and just missed out on a medal in a race won by St Andrew BC. Also racing on Sunday was the Inverness RC women's A-C Quadruple Sculls crew of Jude McManus, Lesley Ronald, Carla Madigan and Jenny Baird which raced extremely well for a recently formed crew and achieved a very credible result although just out of the medal placings.
Overall, the Inverness RC contingent performed extremely well at their very first British Masters Championships and deserve great credit for their Gold medal successes and other significant performances.
